| This is instructions for how to build a MJmod with “extra thick walled” SCH 80 PVC. This type of PVC fits so tight onto the MJ housing that you may wish to even skip cutting the pain in the butt lip. This is the easiest of all the mods to build. To the right is a pic of what it will look like when you are done. If you are looking for instructions for the kit you bought off MJmods.com please click this. Parts List You can find all of this at www.MJmods.com We now have these shrouds precut for $5.99 One self centering cap 1 ½” "extra thick walled" SCH 80 PVC 316 Stainless steel Rod Thin walled ridged Airline soft airline 3/16 acrylic rod A prop of your choice. Super glue Step One Remove the rubber ring from the MJ or this will be a real pain. Using a dremel or another tool of your choice cut the Notches in the pipe so they will fit over the clips on the MJ. Step two (Optional) The pipe should fit on extremely tight but if you would like extra security you can cut a notch in the pipe so it can be locked into place with the clips. Set the table saw blade at about 1/8 and the fence at the same. Spin the pipe around on the blade to cut the lip. Once the lip is cut you need to shave off a bit all around the edge so the pipe can turn when you have it on the MJ. . Should be noted that your hands are close to the saw and this is not the safest operation. Step Three Either drill holes or use a table/miter/chop/tile saw to cut the nice little slits. If you choose to drill the holes you can use a sewing measuring tape to wrap around it and mark where you want them. If you drill small pilot holes first you will have even better results. I obviously didn’t measure my holes. Using bits made for drilling plastic will make things easier also. Step four Drill a 3/16” hole about 1/8” from the top and then stick in about a ½” of the acrylic rod. This will stop the prop if it goes the wrong way and send it back in the right direction Step Five Put the little red cap on one end of the rod and assemble it all. Glue the centering cap onto the pipe, put a dab of glue on the center of the cap where the rod is and you are done. You really should let it dry overnight . Some of the globs of glue will take hours to dry and you don’t want to fall apart. I personally use glue accelerator that almost every hobby shop in the world sells. This stuff makes it dry in seconds rather than hours. I personally glue the hanging attachment that comes with the MJ to hold it on the tank but you could also glue the suction cup attachment on. |
